Our practice is to support clients with less intrusive measures if at all possible and we endorse guardianship only as a last resort if absolutely necessary.
Our goal is to provide healthcare advocacy within a supported decision-making team with healthcare power of attorney and psychiatric advance directives in place in the event the individual becomes unable to make or communicate their own decisions. We provide support that is tailored to the client’s specific needs with an approach that allows individuals to retain their autonomy while gaining the support necessary to navigate complex decisions. We don’t provide any financial or legal support, but we often assist our clients with getting connected with financial and legal supporters that can provide support and oversite.
As a last resort, our CEO and founder, Paula Kelley, can serve as a court appointed guardian of person following the ethical principles and practice standards of the National Guardianship Association and she is one of seven nationally certified guardians in North Carolina certified through the Center for Guardianship Certification.
